FAQs

FAQ’s

Q: What is Solomon’s Porch?
A: Solomon’s Porch is a non-profit organization and youth center. We provide a safe place for youth 13-20 to come, hang out, play games, and eat. Our target population is homeless and high-risk teens, but we allow any youth within our age range to come in. We are also a non-denominational Christian organization, and operate under our code of ethics that is the Bible.

Q: Where is Solomon’s Porch located?
A: We are located at 17 South Mission, next to the Liberty Cinema although this is NOT where to send a donation. Our mailing address is PO Box 2267, Wenatchee, WA 98807

Q: When is Solomon’s Porch open?
A: Solomon’s Porch is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 6:00-9:00. We are also open for Youth Group on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30 and Study Time on Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00-6:00 during the school year. Starting in March our regular open hours will change to Tuesday and Wednesday 6-8pm and Thurday and Friday 6-9pm. We'll continue expanding nights as we ramp up to opening the teen shelter in September.

Q: Can I do Community Service here?
A: If you are 13-20, yes. We have Community Service available on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting between 6:00-6:15. Community Service here may include tasks such as dishwashing, toilet scrubbing, sweeping, mopping, folding newsletters, data entry, cooking, etc. For youth that prove themselves as trustworthy and hard workers, we may select you to participate in extra community service activities to get your hours done sooner.

Q: I have a [insert item name here] and I would like to donate it here. Can I?
A: Well, if you go to our homepage and click on the "WishList" link, you can see if it’s on our Wish List. If it is, then we will gladly accept it. If it is not, we will have to graciously decline. If you really think we'd be able to use it, you can contact one of our directors, Steven or Desiree'.

Q: Is there any way I can volunteer at Solomon’s Porch?
A: Well, there are two major ways you can volunteer here. One is to join us as a Staff Member. We will require you shadow a staff member for one night before you get an application. This is to make sure you know what you’re getting into if you choose to join us. After this, if you still feel inclined to join us on staff, the rest of the process will be explained to you.

The other option, which is considerably less rigorous and time consuming, is to form a group of 3-6 people to serve dinner for our Dinner’s Served program. The details about this can be found on our website at acts512.org, under the "Volunteer" link.

Q: What are your office hours?
A: Our office hours are by-appointment only, due to a busy office and presentation schedule and we are currently closed on Mondays because we do so much on the weekends with youth. We would be honored to get together with you though! Please call us to set up a time to meet.

Q: How many youth do you serve per night?
A: We usually serve somewhere between 20 and 45 youth per evening we are open. This drastically varries due to local events, school schedules and sometimes we think with the strange weather patterns... we never know how many to really expect; we just go with our averages.

Q: When do you send donor receipts?
A: We send donor receipts once a year in January, unless otherwise requested.

Q: What is the meaning behind the Celtic Cross?
A: The Solomon’s Porch Cross was designed by our Executive Director in 2004 as an artistic yet traditional display of our love of Christ. The inner Triquetra is a depiction of the Trinity (or Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).

Q: Why would a teen come to Solomon’s Porch?
A: We offer an array of different services and opportunities, from mentoring to tutoring. We also provide a place to come and socialize, and meet new people in a safe environment. Some youth come the first time to do community service, to wait for a parent to pick them up after a movie, or they just meander in while walking down the street when they see a friend inside.

Q: Can my band play at Solomon’s Porch?
A: In the past, Solomon’s Porch provided a venue for many different bands to come and perform. However, due to the recent remodels, we find ourselves lacking the necessary room to stage a band.

Q: What will people see when they enter Solomon’s Porch?
A: When entering the doors of Solomon’s Porch, you will see a place of high energy and positive atmosphere. On the back wall, there is a serving window, which connects to our commercial kitchen. To your left is some open seating and the television for video games, and to your right is the counter. There is probably a rousing game of pool going on, and next to that there are a couple teens at the computer bar. Youth are all over the place, smiling, talking, laughing, and generally having a good time. The staff, who aren’t helping in the kitchen, are mixed in with the youth, creating the positive atmosphere that makes Solomon’s Porch such a fantastic place to be.

Q: Will someone speak at my company/faith community/club meeting?
A:  Yes, we have representatives who would be honored to speak at your event. The best thing to do is to set a date and time, and call our office to see if a representative is available for that event.

Q: How does Solomon’s Porch handle drug use/abuse?
A: Drug use and/or possession are not allowed on the premises, and will be reported to the authorities. Any youth who enter our facilities not able to control their behavior for any reason, including drug use, will not be permited to stay on the premises. We are an outreach center focused on aiding youth in making healthy life choices which will lead them to becoming an active and contributing member of our valley's society.

Q:Do you have a newsletter?
A:We do! We have a newsletter that goes out 6 times each year (every other month) with information about upcoming events, great stories of changed lives, an updated wishlist (although the one online is the most up-to-date), financial information, and opporotunities to help. To get on the newsletter list is simple, contact our office via phone or email and we'll get you on the list for the upcoming mailing!

Q: Where/how can I donate?
A: First of all, THANK YOU for your choice to change the lives of the teenagers in our area who are in serious need! Checks can be sent to: Solomon's Porch
PO Box 2267
Wenatchee, WA, 98807
